We Celebrate the Unique Nature of Park Circle.
Park Circle is a one-of-a-kind place to live and work. This place is special and the independent businesses are an essential part of that equation. These businesses are often owned by our friends and neighbors, they help recirculate money back into our community, and provide services our community needs and desires.
We Stand Up and Show Up for Independent Businesses.
If you prefer the same businesses you’d find in Pittsburgh or Plano, Park Circle may not be your pint of beer.
We’ve Created Something Special Here.
And we’d like to keep it that way. We’re joining more than 30 communities across the United States, including our neighbors in Sullivan’s Island and Folly Beach, SC in advocating for a zoning district that says “no, thanks” to chain businesses by regulating “Formula Business Establishments.” See what the Charleston Regional Business Journal and the Post & Courier had to say about the City of Folly Beach’s ordinance in Dec 2018.
Formula businesses have standardized services, décor, trademarks, inventory, methods of operation, and other features that make them virtually identical to businesses elsewhere.

Need More Reasons to Love Park Circle’s
Independent Business Community?
Independent Businesses:
Enhance livability: residents and visitors alike enjoy shopping, dining, and working in unique districts that don’t look like “Anywhere, USA.”
Economic Impact: independent businesses return 3 times more revenue back in to the local economy than national chains.
Create More Jobs: every $1 million in consumer spending that flows to independent businesses instead of chains generates about twice as many local jobs.
Increase Home Values: Homes within walking distance to independent businesses retain their value even during an economic downturn.
